Wine Room Design at Spanish Trail CC

Spanish Trail CC created an elegant space that also clearly means business.

While the design of a wine room may range from sophisticated to whimsical, the key to its success will always be to create an intimate space with a look and feel that sets it apart from other dining options on property.

Spanish Trail Country Club, Las Vegas, Nev., does just this in its stately, English library-style wine room. Upon entering the front of the clubhouse, members and guests get a direct look into the space, which combines luxurious décor with sweeping views (when its drapes are opened) of the golf course.

But the room does more than greet members and guests as they arrive. Spanish Trail CC’s wine room functions as a boardroom, a private dining venue and a wine storage space for members’ personal collections, too.

“Keeping it multifunctional opens up many opportunities for use which ultimately exposes the room to more people,” says Kathy Balderi, Director of Food & Beverage/Catering. “Having a place to store their wines also gives members a sense of ownership.”

To cater to business meetings, the room is equipped with a drop-down screen and projector, which are concealed in the elegant, mahogany-paneled ceiling. The room also has wireless Internet and a surround-sound system. A custom-built, solid mahogany table stretches 16-by-5 feet and is accented with plush, cocoa-colored leather executive chairs. The table can be utilized as both a luxurious dining table and a high-tech conference table. For business, it contains ports for laptops and other electronic devices.

When the room is being used for private dining functions, small panels in the table hide these ports, and the executive chairs are exchanged for overstuffed dining chairs or covered banquet chairs.

Lining one wall of the room are custom-built mahogany wine lockers and cabinetry with marble countertops. The lockers house up to 732 bottles of wine, with 48 small lockers that each hold nine bottles, and 12 large lockers with 25-bottle capacity. The lockers are temperature-controlled to maintain 64°F, and each has a glass window that allows the wine bottles to further punctuate the theme of the room.

A contemporary abstract painting in a gold gilded frame hangs on one wall and is flanked by two wall sconces with fabric-covered half-shades. A stacked slate accent wall, lit from above, breaks up the dark woods and adds ambiance. Rich, earth-toned draperies provide further warmth at the back, while sage carpeting with beige pin-stripes, bordered by a muted earth-toned tile, keeps the floor both functional and attractive.

“The Wine Room adds value to the membership,” says Balderi. “It’s a unique and functional space for the club.”
