Delaire CC’s new $6.5M fitness center provides pleasant sights in all directions.

The goal behind the new $6.5 million fitness center at Delaire Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla., was threefold: 1) expand the club’s fitness programs to attract new members; 2) increase appeal to the club’s active membership, and 3) gain a competitive edge. Mission accomplished. The two-level, 16,000-sq. ft. fitness center has a contemporary style that utilizes clean lines and a fresh color palate of aqua, cream, copper and chocolate.

Members enter the lobby to find two modern chandeliers and abstract artwork lining the walls. The lobby also houses restrooms and a group fitness room with a floating wood floor, two mirrored walls and a ballet bar. A removable divider wall allows the space to be split into two smaller rooms or opened up into one large aerobic space. Windows bookend the room,  and six paddle fans offer an airy, energized ambiance.

Leading upstairs to the main fitness space is a striking staircase with satin nickel railings and stained wood handrails. A modern, geometric chandelier with a brushed nickel finish hangs overhead.

The fitness center brings the outdoors in through floor-to-ceiling windows along two walls, flooding the space with natural light and providing spectacular views of the golf course, the pool pavilion and the picturesque grounds. A mirrored wall across from the windows reflects the light, further filling the space with a natural glow.

State-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment is set up in lines facing the windows. “We wanted to take advantage of the views that we have,” says Phil Bayne, Director of Fitness.

The cardio equipment surrounds the strength-training equipment, which has been arranged to provide a user-friendly, weight-training experience. “Everything we did is in a circuit-training setup,” explains Bayne. “One line is for your upper body; one line is for your lower body; another line is for cross-functional training, and then we have a stretching area.”

Also housed upstairs are locker rooms, massage treatment rooms and a relaxation room. The locker room has rich wood lockers, showers, a steam room and classic crown molding detail. Recessed low lighting above the lockers provides soft accent lighting within the space.

Similarly, the massage treatment rooms are equipped with low lighting, soft music and heated towel racks. The relaxation room is furnished with plush chocolate-toned, cushioned chairs.

The club’s fitness center opened in October 2010 to the delight of its members—and the accolades of the community at large. The fitness center was awarded the prestigious 2010 Excellence in Design Award by the Delray Beach Site Plan Review and Appearance Board.
